Notes on 10-LP: DIMENSIONI SONORE (1972) (Part 1)

Library-music project by both Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai, each conducting their own pieces. Full title: Dimensioni sonore, Musiche per l'immagine e l'immaginazione 10 LPs – 103 tracks – Morricone: 50 tracks (length: 193:07) – Nicolai: 53 tracks (length: 188:41) The music was produced from 1970 to 1972. (EMM 262) The 10 albums were released simultaneously in October 1972. No information is provided about the musicians involved. For example, who is the voice featured on the tracks "Radiazioni", "Costante", "Analogie", "Invariabile" and "Equivalenze"? All 103 'Dimensioni sonore' pieces are separately registered with copyright agency SIAE. At SIAE each track is credited to both Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai, but the 10 LPs assign every piece to its alleged composer. Regarding the Alberto De Martino movies, Ennio Morricone said: "We (Morricone and Nicolai) even decided to share credit in those cases in which one or the other authored the whole score." (In His Own Words, page 83) The 10-LP 'Dimensioni sonore' project is in reality a 12-LP project. Around the same time, on a different label, two additional LPs were released, having the same type of music and track titles. Again, SIAE ascribes all tracks to both Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai, while the 11th LP solely credits Morricone and the 12th LP credits Nicolai.
